In your ears the listening!

Thought I’d start a thread where people can post music they are currently listening to. I’ll start, been listening to Nine Inch Nails quite a bit recently. Mainly the album Pretty Hate Machine, I personally find it as my favorite of theirs.

Nine Inch Nails - Terrible Lie

Anyways if you feel like sharing post away!

I keep coming back to Miles Davies and Kind of Blue. It has just the right amount of energy and it doesn’t get boring no matter how many times I listen to it.

I love that album!

This is Jeff Buckley:

Done live. My favorite version.

I’ll have to listen to this, don’t listen to jazz much but I do dig what I have heard so far. Thanks for sharing!

Really dig this Jeff Buckley song, it’s pretty f’ing groovy.

Get his album Grace. It is perfect, through a through, every song.

He only made one album before he died.

Led Zep was a big fan of his.

Definitely will listen to that album

Any 70’s punk fans in here? I’ve been on a big Wire kick lately.

Dude. I just got into jazz in the last year. Miles, Coltrane, and Thelonius Monk have dominated my commute ever since. Kind of Blue is incredible. B*tches Brew might be even better (in addition to having one of the coolest album covers of all time).

And yeah, it doesn’t ever get boring, but it does make other music sound boring by comparison.

Speaking of non-verbal music that rules: look up Mono. They are a post-rock band from Japan.

I listen to them all day while chilling.

Interesting. I’m always on the lookout for new “music to program by,” and this wasn’t too far from that.

It’s got a raw, garage-band sound, and the percussion is a little too insistent to not be distracting, so this doesn’t go to the top of my working list. But it reminds me a lot of a less polished Sigur Rós, and that’s not a bad thing. (Here’s my favorite of theirs: , which I glommed onto before it got popular. )

Thanks for the recommendations – keep 'em coming!

One album I come back to every few months is Another One Lost by Lake Trout:

Also, if any of you guys are into more modern jazz, Vijay Iyer is worth a listen:

Sorry, but the forum accidentally deleted my reply. I was going to say I prefer Mono to Sigur Ros. Mono have a much better climax, and their musical stories weave a more consistent tale. Not to mention they are poignantly emotional–music to weep to.

I’m not fond of the cooing in Sigur Ros. But each to his own.

I play Mono at least 3x a day. You should listen to their albums: You Are There, Hymn to the Immortal Wind, and the Last Dawn, in that exact order.

Yeah, this is really good. I googled them and noticed that they’ve collaborated and played a lot of shows with Envy, who I really like (Japanese post-hardcore).

Boris is another band from that “we don’t really fit in in Japan, so we’ll all play shows together even though we’re in different genres” group that I really like. I’ve seen them live three times, and I’d go again in a heartbeat.

Just recently started listening to this rapper, like him a lot so far.

Joey Bada$$ - Paper Trails

Here is my listening for today:

It’s been a good day.

Grab some Immortal Technique.

Word up, I’ll definitely check him out.

Been listening to this on repeat all today.

Immortal Technique:

Jeff Buckley:

My three favorite artists.

Just picked up The Epic by Kamasi Washington. It’s pretty damn good.

Also got some prehistoric screamo by Antioch Arrow (been on a big San Diego screamo kick lately, and there’s plenty of backlog to fill).

It’s crazy that they were playing stuff like that in 1993.
